Why Rowdy?
Our youngest son, Myers, is a vibrant and imaginative 9-year-old who continues to amaze us every day. Diagnosed with Autism shortly after his second birthday, Myers’ journey has never been defined by a label. Though many knew him as “Rowdy” when he was younger—a nickname that fit his energetic spirit—these days, he prefers to be called by his real name, and may kindly correct you if you don’t. While he may not remember just how fitting that nickname once was, we certainly do!

Over the years, Myers has grown in remarkable ways. His boundless imagination still transports him from everyday places to extraordinary adventures—from intergalactic missions to medieval quests. But now, you’re just as likely to find him curled up with a book as you are seeing him sword-fighting invisible dragons. He has blossomed into a true bookworm, and his love for learning continues to grow.

Every day with Myers brings something new—he keeps us on our toes with his curiosity and creativity. He is thriving in a typical classroom setting at Annunciation Catholic School, a private school that tailors its teaching to the needs of each individual child. We have been blessed with incredible support from the teachers and staff, who have helped Myers succeed both academically and socially.

He also continues to receive counseling and weekly therapy, both of which have been vital components of his development. Since his initial diagnosis, our journey has included incredible support from local organizations like The TK Martin Center Project IMPACT and The Golden Triangle Autism Center. The gains he has made in communication and behavior are nothing short of extraordinary. Once nearly nonverbal, Myers now fills our days with thoughtful questions, imaginative stories, and vibrant conversation—progress we once only dreamed of.

Myers’ journey opened our eyes to the world of special needs and the importance of accessible Autism resources. Through The Rowdy Foundation, we are committed to supporting Autism services and special needs inclusion across North Mississippi, so other families can find the hope, help, and community we were so fortunate to discover.

Proceeds are distributed to various special needs programs throughout North Mississippi as well as put towards sensory friendly events The Rowdy Foundation hosts throughout the year.

Our events include:

The Rowdy Races: The Rowdy Races: Held this past fall at Lowndes County Soccer Complex, kids of all ages and needs were able to compete together in the Golden Triangles' first-ever all-inclusive obstacle course! The event was a huge success, with over 250 participants!
Rowdy Hoops: An all-inclusive basketball game in partnership with the Heritage Academy senior class. An excellent opportunity for hoop stars who usually may not get time on the court to shine and show their skills.
Rebooted In My Shoes: An in school program designed to show children without disabilities what it’s like to walk in the shoes of children with disabilities. This program was provided for free to our local schools. We are very excited to see this program continue to grow!

Formed Special Support: A support group for parents and caregivers of those who have special needs. A shame and guilt-free gathering to talk through the highs and lows of caring for someone with special needs.

Sensory Saturday Events: Hosted sensory events with other local organizations that allowed opportunities for kids and parents alike to learn new and fun sensory activities through their five senses.

Rowdy Movie Events: Provided a sensory-friendly outing for those who may not typically be able to enjoy a day out to the big screen. The lights were left partially on, and the sound was turned down, but all had FUN!

Sensory Friendly Theatre: Partnering with Golden Triangle Theatre in Columbus, MS we were able to provide a sensory-friendly outing for those who may not typically be able to enjoy a day out to the big screen. Similar to the movies -- the lights were left partially on, and the sound was turned down, but all had wonderful time! Including the incredible actors and actresses who performed for us!

As our list continues to grow, we would love your support whether it be monetary or sponsoring and/or attending one of our upcoming events.

We hope that you will help us continue to Get Rowdy for Special Needs!
